The Route to Cape Town

The route below is the one Dan and I took to reach Cape Town in South Africa. I will add to the route at the same time as I add a new blog post so you can see the progress we made each day of cycling. The green markers indicate where we stayed each night.
At certain points, we had to get off our bikes either through choice or necessity,. We were not like the recent Guinness World Record holder for cycling the fastest around the world, Mark Beaumont, who cycled 100 miles a day with a day off every two weeks for just over 190 days. Our journey was a little slower!
(The image to the left is the cover of a card I sent home to Penny from Niamey, Niger for the New Year '92. I bought this hand painted card from a man walking around our camp site in the city. It depicts a hunter walking with his prey (a dead bird), a water gourd and his spear).
